We were there for a family wedding and spent two nights at the inn. We had the adjoining room in the barn and were very pleased with the room. The service was amazing and the staff was very friendly. The food was catered for the wedding and the continental breakfast was good. The only suggestion would be for better lighting between the main house and the barn . The road leading to the barn parking was also not very well lit. Overall we had a pleasant experience.

Shelter Harbor Inn exceeded every expectation and was the perfect setting for our late-September wedding weekend. From the very beginning, Erin was incredibly attentive, organized, and thoughtful throughout the entire planning process. She kept us on track with key milestones, was flexible in accommodating onsite visits, and ensured every detail — including room blocks and guest accommodations — was seamless and well managed. Her professionalism and care made the planning experience truly stress-free. The staff at the Inn were consistently kind, professional, and welcoming, creating a truly elevated experience for us and our guests. We had family and friends travel from all over the country, as far as California, and they couldn’t stop raving about the rooms and amenities. The convenience of on-site dining, breakfast, shuttle service, and beach access made the entire weekend feel effortless and special. The venue itself is exceptional. The recently renovated dining space accommodated our celebration perfectly and struck a beautiful balance between elegance and sophistication. For cocktail hour, we used the outdoor patio and side yard, which created the ideal setting for guests to mingle, enjoy appetizers, and relax. The addition of outdoor games — so graciously provided by the Inn — was a wonderful touch and added to the warm, inviting atmosphere. Shelter Harbor Inn is also in a fabulous location. Its proximity to Westerly and South Kingstown allowed our guests to explore and enjoy the surrounding area, adding even more to the overall experience of the weekend. What truly sets Shelter Harbor Inn apart is its charm and intimacy. It feels like a refined New England escape — personal, quaint, and thoughtfully designed rather than large or impersonal. Having direct access to the beach was a highlight for us, especially for photos, and is something that makes this venue stand out among others. Everything about our experience was exceptional — it truly couldn’t have been better. We’re already looking forward to returning to Shelter Harbor Inn, and many of our guests have shared the same sentiment. We’re incredibly grateful for such a memorable experience and would highly recommend this venue to any couple looking for an intimate, beautifully executed, and elevated wedding weekend.

We had a very nice 3-day stay in late September 2025. Most of the staff were exceedingly friendly and helpful both before and during our visit. However it was difficult to not compare this visit to our stay two years ago. In 2023 the restaurant was in the “new” event center. During that trip the breakfast was wonderful. Now the restaurant is in the area previously set up as a living room that had couches and comfy chairs. The breakfast buffet is much reduced and the one young lady on the front desk was busing dirty dishes, replenishing coffee etc. The breakfast hours are 8-10 but by 8:30 the croissants were gone. It would be nice to get coffee earlier, at least 7:30. As noted elsewhere, there are no fridges in the rooms. The mini split AC, a few feet from your head, buzzes every few minutes which is very noticeable. Apart from the double hook for towels outside the shower, there was not a single other hook of any kind in the room. The only king bedroom available in the main house when we booked was a balcony room which would have been lovely if the door out to the balcony had worked without kicking it open and if it had a screen door to let in fresh air. On the balcony was a table and two chairs. Definitely not worth the additional cost. It is a conveniently located inn with plenty of easy parking and the fire pits at night were very pleasant. The man who shuttles to the beach is very pleasant and helpful.

The Shelter Harbor Inn is full of warmth and charm, with all the modern conveniences! We found the staff very friendly, accommodating and professional. The setting is pretty, within walking distance to water views and amongst historical homes in this former musical colony. You'll instantly relax!

We LOVED our stay at Shelter Harbor Inn. The inn itself is quaint, cozy and charming. The beds were comfortable and the room was a good size for a weekend stay. Breakfast and coffee in the mornings was an added bonus, and the restaurant for dinners or drinks is delicious and well priced. It’s in a lovely neighborhood that is great for walks and less than 10 minutes to beaches and downtown. Highly recommend.

We spent 4 nights over the New Year's holiday. Wonderfully attentive and caring staff--truly cannot say enough fabulous things about their superb dedication and customer service--ALL of them rocked! We had a cottage room (with king-sized bed) with a gas fireplace and mini-fridge; it was a well-appointed, spacious and comfy room. Ask for their complimentary bathrobes--they're perfect for lounging in. If staying in a colder time period, they can provide a small portable space heater for the bathroom--works just fine to take the chill off. In the main building in the receptionist's area, complimentary bottled water is always available, and during our stay, there was always a lovely, wood-burning fire going in the dining room's stone fireplace. For New Year's Eve, before and after the simple, yet delicious dinner, we availed ourselves of the wood-burning fire pits outside. A nice, peaceful treat! The neighborhood community (established in 1911) on and off Wagner Road is very walkable, extensive and safe with intriguing and varied architecture--don't miss checking out the names of the streets too. If we had one serious recommendation to make, it would be to up the Inn's game on their breakfast options. It's "continental-light" that is unfortunately not appealing. Serving only packaged, ultra-processed cold cereal (with too many options containing lots of sugar, including the packaged oatmeal) with the same, daily commercial muffins is off-putting in relation to what the historic property offers and provides (which is still undergoing physical improvements). Please consider including unsweetened foodstuffs like yogurt and oatmeal, whole wheat/grain breads, hard-boiled eggs. Happily, Dave's Coffee is less than a 5-min drive down Rt 1 to remedy the Inn's meager breakfast offerings, and shouldn't be missed. Many thanks to all the staff who made our little holiday getaway truly special and relaxing--we'll be back for sure!

This was our first stay at the Inn. We had a really nice room in the carriage house which had a desk/chair, sofa, king bed, fireplace and refrigerator. The bathroom had a walk in shower. There were chairs outside the door if we wanted to sit. The breakfast was more of a continental type but that was fine for us. The restaurant is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, as was the bar which was a bit disappointing. But we were there during their off season. The staff was exceptional - extremely helpful and very pleasant. They were especially helpful when I ran into a snag with Expedia ( who cancelled my reservation out of the blue) and with a knee injury I had recently had. We love the area and plan on returning during the season!
